Stony Brook University is situated on 1,039 acres on the North Shore of Long Island,
a midway point between Montauk (The End) and New York City.  Widely regarded as a SUNY flagship.

Traveling To Stony Brook

 

Stony Brook University is approximately 60 miles east of New York City and 60 miles from Montauk , providing a myriad of options whether you are travelling, exploring,  and staying here.

Getting Here:

  • By Car:  From New York City, take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) eastbound from the Queens Midtown Tunnel in Manhattan or the Throgs Neck Bridge or Whitestone Bridge in Queens to exit 62, and follow Nicolls Road (Route 97) north for 9 miles. The main entrance to the University is on the left. To find the campus via GPS, enter the address "100 Nicolls Road, Stony Brook, NY 11790."

  • Airports: MacArthur Airport (ISP) a regional airport, is located Ronkonkoma, and within 20 miles of SBU.  Southwest and American Airlines both fly into MacArthur regularly. JFK and LaGuardia Airports are within 60 miles of SBU and close to Manhattan.

  • Shuttles: Multiple shuttle services are available to Stony Brook, including the Long Island Railroad which connects SBU to both airports.

  • Long Island Railroad:  The Stony Brook train station, on the Port Jefferson branch, is located at the edge of the SBU campus.  Campus buses and a shuttle to the on-campus hotel serve the station.

The Charles B. Wang Center serves as a conference facility and venue for many university and community events.  Conveniently located just off the main entrance of campus and across from the Hilton Garden Inn, the Wang Center celebrates Asian & Asian American culture--  a theme purposefully carried throughout the building.

 

Multiple skylights, indoor pools and fountains create a serene backdrop for the distinctive art exhibits that are located in galleries throughout the space. It features the Jasmine food court on the main floor, multiple open-air lobbies with casual seating, meeting rooms, lecture halls, and a professionally-staffed theater.
